the doily sweater

one of the things i made for this first friday show
is the doily sweater.
my mom is originally from europe
and i have all these fabulous doilies and
needlework pieces that were made my hand
by her mom and her sister.
many of them are hidden away in my dining room.
i once saw where a girl had sewn some doilies on a sweater
and decided that was exactly what i wanted to do with some of my treasures.
i used just a few of my special ones
and went hunting and gathering for some vintage ones
sewed them on in a haphazard, mismatch-y way
.........and it's now one of my favorite sweaters

so......i've made some for the first friday show
and they are filled with lovely found and vintage doilies
and buttons and bits of lace and mismatched stitching
when nothing really matches on a sweater......
.....it really does go with anything

if you are in greenville
hope to see you tonite

happy weekend

beautiful! I tried the same thing last fall, although my doilies were not special. I like the addition of various buttons. nice work.

thanks for visiting and for all the lovely comments everyone....

and how long did it take me?
so much longer than you would expect...i always think it will take no time at all, but all the hand sewing, and the buttons and bits take forever....but i do love making them...and i love wearing my super special sweater :)

I saw a hoodie just the other day with doilies on it--couldn't tell if they were appliqued or screen printed. This is even lovelier, though--so delicate and pretty.
