uncommon...

i was poking around the uncommon goods website....
...finding so many great things...
but i narrowed it down to my 2 favorites....

a recycled mail sack ipad case
just the sort of piece-y, vintagey thing that i love

and...

a recycled
bike spoke money clip for my guy
who hates to carry anything in his pockets, so he has the smallest wallet ever....
....and he loves to bike
(but would he like a money clip? ...i don't know...would have to find out)

exactly the sort of think i love...

i stumbled upon totem...
and instantly fell in love....

what's not to love about salvaged needlepoints,
navajo rugs, textiles and leather
all mixed together to make totes, clutches,
and other fabulous pieces?

artist's statement: (found here)
I have always loved hunting for treasures at flea markets and antique shops. I love the thrill of finding some abandoned object like old horse reins that are beautifully crafted but need to be cleaned up and re worked into a strap for one of my bags. Something about giving new life to discarded objects is so satisfying. I am especially in love with vintage needle points , navajo rugs and old saddle blankets. I make them into backpacks shoulder bags and clutch bags.

I also hunt for old trade beads and what I call hippie beads ,turquoise wood and other unusual beads that I thread onto the fringe that hangs from the navajo bags creating a unique one of a kind bag full of treasure and history. I make all the bags in my L.A studio.

diy...

school starts monday.... (boo!)
...so we have one more weekend we can call summer...
would love to do a quick diy with my "little" girl
before she is crazy busy....
and this is just the sort of thing she will love....

add a pop of color to your bobbies
by painting the tips with nail color
(it seems that 3 coats works best)
see the complete diy here .....found here first

happy weekend!!

note to self...

even though i want to....
it's way to hot to wear a scarf around my neck...
but i can certainly tie one around my wrist
to make an instant, cool diy bracelet....
